Three men gang rape 15 year old girl in Lagos

Three men have allegedly gang-raped a 15-year old girl at the Ikorodu area of Lagos, as the police are alleged to be threatening the victim’s parents to settle the matter out of court.

The state government had earlier blamed the police for frustrating rape cases by threatening victims and their families to withdraw their cases. Two of the men have been arraigned at one of the newly established Family Courts in Ikeja for allegedly raping the girl.

The suspects are being tried by the Lagos State Office of the Public Defender, OPD, while the third suspect is still at large. It was learnt that the victim was lured to No 23, Fola Mustapha Street, in Ajegunle area of Ikorodu by her classmate (name withheld), a 16-year old girl, on the pretext that she wanted to return a text book which she had earlier borrowed from the victim.

A man has been arrested last week for branding his initials on his girlfriend’s private part. 49-year old Christopher Jackson from Arizona, allegedly used a branding tool and a butane torch to burn the initials “CJ” onto his girlfriend's vagina after drugging her. She awoke feeling pains in her vagina, but Jackson felt he has done no wrong.

She told the Police, that Jackson bragged that he has done it to his girlfriends in the past, and he did it to her because her vagina belongs to him. The incident happened in May but she was too scared to report to the Police until last week. Police searched Jackson’s home and allegedly found his butane torch and brand. He was booked into jail on a charge of aggravated assault with serious physical injury.

CAN gives El-Rufai 7 days to reveal source of Oritsejafor’s private jet

Controversial politician and former minister for the Federal Capital Terrotory, Mallam Nasir El Rufai, has been given a 7-day ultimatum by the Christian Association of Nigeria to reveal to Nigerians who gave the President of CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, his private jet or risk having his dirty character exposed to the public. The Christian Association also asked El-Rufai to go for a Psychiatric test.

Earlier this year, I was approached to do some media consultancy in Nigeria. I’d just left the BBC after 18 years, to set up my own business, so this seemed a great opportunity.  I spoke to a number of friends and former colleagues. I’d heard many stories about Nigeria, seen the reports on Boko Haram and had my own impressions of sub Saharan Africa.

The advice fell into two camps:

a) Don’t go, you’ll get kidnapped or catch malaria. Either way, you’re going to die
b) Nigeria is a nightmare. When you arrive, you’ll be swamped by hustlers trying to rip you off, steal your luggage and all your money. If they don’t get you, the corrupt police officers and officials will.
I was mainly to be based in Asaba, the capital of the Delta State, one of, if not the biggest, oil producing states is Nigeria. In an attempt to be a bit more thorough with my research than asking a few old mates, I contacted the office of BBC Media Action in Abuja.
